The
sound file is from the 750 Honda that I had in Germany, not
this Hondamatic.
Betsy
is a 1977 CB 750A Hondamatic. In her 23 years, she is still
running strong having lived in the eastern part of Canada; Edmonton,
Alberta; Calgary, and now southern Alberta near Cardston. She isn't a fast bike but speed is not
an important factor in Canada (I'm from Germany where there is was
virtually NO speed limit on the Autobahn). Being an automatic motorbike
seems to be strange. There was a limited number built over a short
period of time. I never saw them in Germany on the road, so I suppose
they were only available for the North American market. She drives
like any other motorbike and all that's different is there is no
clutch. Picture is at Ghost Lake, Alberta.

I
made some modifications: added a second disk brake on the front
wheel and also drilled both disk brake rotors for better brake performance.
I discovered, while test riding the bike, that the original master
cylinder was too small, so I installed one with a larger piston.
I attached a larger rear tire to a newly laced and trued 16 inch
rim wheel hub. To be able to fit the shock lowering kit, I had to
change the swing arm which is from a K6 model. The chain guard is
a custom model. In 1998, I finally replaced the mufflers with 4
into 2 system, turn-out style, (see photo). Many of the parts I
purchase from our local "recycle" bike shop TJ's.
More
on the muffler system:
I
ordered it through a bike dealer here in Calgary who ordered it

They
are 4 into 2 turn out style slip on mufflers. They are designed for
Honda CB750 K 3-6. I had do some modifications to make them fit on
my bike. The mufflers won't fit the pipes of the Hondamatic so I got
some pipes from a Honda CB750 K6 and cut them down so the turn out
style mufflers would slide 1 1/2 to 2 inches over the pipes. I also
had to modify the muffler bracket so that I could fasten it to the
passenger foot peg. The side stand was in the way so I added a piece
to make the part that the stand is attached to longer. With these
mufflers, you don't need to adjust the jets of the carborator. It
seems like a lot of work but the end result is nice. They also have
a nice sound.
